If you’re interested in Warhammer Online at all, you’ve probably read about Mythic’s decision to drop four classes before their imminent launch. I respect that they’re willing to abandon or postpone so much content for the sake of quality, but I’m not sure yet if this specific move was a smart idea.warhammer

Questions arise only because they removed the tank of two factions and the barbarian (melee DPS) of two factions… while leaving other factions with both tanks and barbarians. Jacobs has said they don’t expect a balance issue, despite the uneven role distribution. It’s possible for the removal of classes (on one side but not the other) to not upset balance… but only if the classes are designed more in the style of Diablo 2 than in the style of typical MMOs.warhammer power level

In a typical MMO, each class is designed primarily to fulfill a specific role in group combat. The class’s efficiency outside a group or outside that specific role in the group is secondary and generally suffers in some way(s).warhammer powerleveling
In Diablo 2, on the other hand, each class is designed to be a damage-dealing powerhouse in itself, and any class can be tailored to a variety of roles in group combat. The specific skills, open skill selection and upgrade system, open stat selection, and mostly-open item system make this possible. I prefer Diablo 2’s system. There was no need to nerf one class and empower another after release, because every character is so unique and optimization is subjective in that game. Also, it’s possible to have a very effective group comprised of any class combination… including all characters of one or two classes. I know that WAR is abandoning many ridiculous MMO traditions. And I know they want every class to be capable of soloing. So it’s possible that Jacobs is right, and there’s really not a severe balance issue caused by this recent move by Mythic. We’ll just have to wait and see, right?war gold

The armored fist of the Space Marines, the Land Raider is one of the most powerful tanks in
the Imperium’s arsenal. It can transport a squad of five Terminators into battle, carries
enough weapons to blast its way through nearly any defense, and has armor thick enough to

I see a lot of the Professions are getting a lot of love lately. Cooking, specially, has
been particularly awesome in Wrath of the Lich King, with cooks able to prepare feasts for
raids that give excellent buffs. Engineering has been fun, too, although I have yet to see
the schematic for my Harley Softail Hog. I’m curious about one thing, though… where are my
shirts? With all the options to customize characters in the game — I mean, those wow power
leverling barbershops are pretty neat — how come there aren’t any new shirt patterns?world

There are over 50 different shirts in the game, 22 of which are tailored. The rest are
uncouth styles that are simply too unfashionable for my needs. I’ve picked up enough
Sleeveless T-Shirts in Alterac Valley to clothe an army. It makes me cringe to see Level 70
characters still sporting their original Thug Shirt. Let’s get some style, people! There are
a good number of shirts to choose from, but frankly, we need Fall fashions for Wrath of the
Lich King. I mean, the last great (and saleable) shirt pattern was the Rich Purple Silk

Fashion in World of Warcraft has fallen behind. At least, tailor-made ones. Would you
believe that there wasn’t a single new shirt pattern throughout the whole Burning Crusade? I
mean, I know that demons were at our gates and some dude named Illidan was plotting to take
over everything we know and love, but come on! Where was my Netherweave shirt? If I’m going
to fight a war, I want to fight in style!

Guild name drama! The Global Warming is a guild on EU Venture Company (which happens to be
an RP-PvP server), and they tried to report the name of another guild, There is no IRL only
AFK, since they claimed it had a real world reference in it. Of course, The Global Warming
also has a real world reference in it, so they ended up getting their name changed as well.
Real geniuses over there. They’ve since rechartered back to TGW, but they’re angry about it.
Guess that’s what you get for calling out another guild for, y’know, a mistake you’ve made

Last week, we reported about a little fracas between Original Sin (who’d rerolled on another
server just to make fun of people’s gear) and S I S, both on Spinebreaker. Apparently S I S
isn’t so lame, though — we heard they downed Illidan this week. Who needs gear now?
Ascension on Blackwater Raiders-H is apparently leaking guildies “like a sieve,” according
to our tipster. The raiding population is already low, and since they’re losing players,
we’re told they’re taking on all of the “friends and family” that they can, leaving some of
the original players frustrated themselves. Progression has stalled, too, for at least a few
months. We hear they’re on the brink.wow powerleveling

Last Saturday, we’re told Insidious of Perenolde-H had their whole council up and move
without warning to Cairne, bringing along a guild bank full of items. Almost no notice was
given to other guildies, and in fact, some of the members were actually locked out of the

Someone showed up in the Durotan forum to announce that Apotheosis was disbanding because
they were so bad… except that a few guildies showed up later to say that, no, they

The Space Marine Captain was painted in two shifts, first by Sebastian Archer who was
invited to spend a few days with the ‘Eavy Metal team, and then completed by renowned ‘Eavy
Metal painter Kirsten Williams. Adam Troke spent a pleasant morning chatting to Kirsten and
learning the secrets behind how the Space Marine Captain’s extraordinary level of detail was

1)The Captain’s power armour was painted in the traditional way for an Ultramarines Space
Marine (see our stage-by-stage, also on this website, for more information). Once the armour
was fully painted, she progressed onto the Captain’s details.warhammer power leverling

2)Gold trim (Bannertop, bolter casing, shoulder trim etc)
The gold trim was
started by using a 50/50 mix of Scorched Brown and Shining Gold. This provided a nice rich
basecoat, over which a highlight of Shining Gold was painted, followed by a further
highlight with a 50/50 mix of Shining Gold and Mithril Silver. Once the paint was dry, a
wash of Gryphonne Sepia was applied to the golden areas. Finally a line-highlight of 30/70
Shining Gold and Mithril Silver was made, to pick out the upper most details.warhammer gold

3)Eagle
Kirsten was very pleased with the eagle detail on the Captain’s banner. It was painted with
a basecoat of Bestial Brown, which was then washed with Devlan Mud. Once the wash was dry,
Snakebite Leather was painted onto the eagle, taking care to leave Bestial Brown in the
recesses. Next, a line-highlight was painted onto the raised areas using a 50/50 mix of
Snakebite Leather and Bleached Bone, with a final highlight of Bleached Bone. The last step
was to detail the eagle’s eyes, which were carefully painted using Scorched Brown.war gold

4)Face
The Captain’s face was painted using a 50/50 mix of Tallarn Flesh and Dark Flesh as a
basecoat, which was then highlighted with Tallarn Flesh. Once dry, the face was given a wash
of Ogryn Flesh. Next, line highlights were made, first with Tallarn Flesh, then with a 50/50
mix of Tallarn Flesh and Dheneb Stone. Finally a very careful highlight of Dheneb Stone was

5)Cloth (Loincloth, inside of cloak, Purity Seal paper etc)
The cloth areas were basecoated with Khemri Brown, which was then mixed with increasing
amounts of Kommando Khaki and painted on as highlights, until pure Kommando Khaki was used
for the final highlight. Next a line highlight of Bleached Bone was painted on, and finally
a last highlight of Skull White. If the overall effect looks too severe, a very watered-down
wash of Devlan Mud can be used to dull down the colours.warhammer

6)Cloak (cloak exterior, purity seal wax, lanyards, banner details etc)
The cloak was painted with a basecoat of a 50/50 mix of Blood Red and Scorched Brown.
Successive stages were layered over the first, adding more Blood Red into each, until pure
Blood Red was used for the final layer. Next an extreme highlight of Blazing Orange was
painted on the most raised areas, followed by a very careful highlight of Elf Flesh (yes,

Here in the Studio, the Space Marine Captain and Ork Warboss included in Assault on Black
Reach have been causing quite a storm. Dazzlingly detailed, these push-fit plastic warhammer
powerlevel miniatures are so gorgeous it’s hard to tell they’re not metal without looking
really, really carefully.

Since we’re so chuffed with Dave Thomas and Seb Perbet’s
work - the sculptors of Captain and Warboss respectively - and the astounding paint jobs
‘Eavy Metal lavished on them, that we decided it was worth looking in detail at how the
‘Eavy Metal team painted these great miniatures. ‘Eavy Metal’s Kirsten Williams (along with
Sebastian Archer) tackled the Space Marine Captain, while the Ork Warboss was given to

I’m an officer and the Warrior class leader in a small PvE guild on Burning Steppes EU, which has been trying to break into 25-man content before Lich King. As we needed tanks we’ve been accepting warriors with little experience and gear in order to train them up and get them ready for raid tanking. So far we’ve had good success, with a number of pre-Kara tanks, including myself, now at the level of MT’ing up to prince.
